Hello First Grade Parents,
Welcome to Val Vista Academy for the 2018-2019 school year! I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child over the next year. The start of the school year is such an exciting time, filled with anticipation and hopes of what the new year will bring. The first day of school will mark one of the most important milestones in your child's life. I’m so glad I get to share that with you.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. My name is Candice Smith and I am one of the First grade teachers here at Val Vista Academy. This will be my fifthteenth year of teaching but my second year at Val Vista Academy. I received my B.A. in early childhood education from John Carroll University which is in my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio in 2004. I completed my master’s degree program in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment at Walden University in January 2011. I’ve always known I wanted to work with children, but I was not quite sure what I wanted to do (pediatrician, child psychologist, or a social worker). After working as a home health-aid and at a daycare facility, I realized that I was truly meant to be in the classroom. I love working with children and I am passionate about what I do. On a personal note, I have been married for 11 years and our son Lyndon is 6 years old and he is in first grade too! Lyndon’s older siblings are excited for his new journey as well. I enjoy spending time with my family, shopping, going on vacation, and learning new things.
First grade is a year filled with learning, growing, making friends and fun too! Our days will be filled with stories, problem solving, phonics, writing and many more activities and memories. I’m sure you have many questions about how the classroom will operate and what will be expected of your child. I assure you I will be available to answer your questions. I am looking forward to getting to know all the children. I am sure that all of us will learn a lot in the upcoming months! I believe our communication is vital to your child’s success. If you should ever have any questions, comments, or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Mrs. Smith 😊
